As an option for the ranks up to Captain, you can buy the Captain 4 Gold pips and use 1 through 4 of them, depending on rank. With the Admiral ranks, the various ranks from Commodore up come in a patch style instead of individual pips, so be sure to pick up the ones for your correct desired Admiral rank.

Commander and Captain Rank Pins

The set of Star Trek: The Next Generation rank pips for Commanders is currently out of stock and has been for a while. However, there is an easy fix. Just order the Captain’s Rank Pips instead (seen here). The rank pips for Captain comes with 4 gold pips instead of 3 AND the black pip, but you can just wear three of them!

This set will allow you to go with one gold pip for Ensign, one gold and one black for Lt (jg) and 2 through 4 gold pips for Lieutenant through Captain. This will also allow you to portray Lt. Commander Data with 2 gold pips and 1 black pip.

The reviews are a little mixed, but oddly enough, one complaint was that the pips weren’t shiny, whereas I noted above that the reviewer complained because they were shiny. So I’m going to leave that up to you – shiny or not is your choice, and easily fixable either way, I’d think, with a little application of gloss or matte paint. If you want a good budget option, this style of Rank Pip may be the way to go if they are in stock.

Combinations of Rank Pips and Comm unicators All in One

I particularly like this set because you get rank pins all the way from Ensign up to Captain (including Lt Commander Data) and a more versatile set of accessories for communicators for both The Next Generation and Voyager. You can raid it for the pips you need, since it has all 4 gold pips and a black pip.

As a bonus to the rank pips that work for TNG and Voyager, you also get a communicator for both The Next Generation and Voyager.

Star Trek: The Next Generation Communicator and 5 Rank Pins

Another option is to buy this smart-looking TNG Communicator and Rank Pip set and raid it for the pips you need, since it has all 4 gold pips and a black pip. As a bonus to the rank pips that work for TNG and Voyager, you also get a TNG communicator.

Voyager or Deep Space 9 Communicator and 4 Gold Rank Pips

It’s hard to find a combination rank pips and communicator for Voyager or DS9. Your best bet is to purchase them separately. This communicator pin will work for both Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek:: DS9.

If you’re just looking for a great-looking Communicator for either Star Trek: Voyager or Star Trek: Deep Space 9, this is the best choice I’ve found around.

You get a communicator that fits Voyager or DS9 in full-size.

Then you can add a set of 4 Voyager gorgeous Gold Captain’s Rank Pips. You can also depict a couple of other ranks with the gold pips. You are limited to Ensign, Lieutenant, Commander, and Captain due to the lack of a black rank pip. If you need these other ranks, since the pins are sold separately from the communicator, you can get the full Rank Pip Set I reviewed above to get that instead.

The metal pins come with the military pin clasps on the back for a secure fit, which others have noted makes a big difference in how they hold in place and stay aligned. If you’re looking for a full-sized, authentic TNG or Voyager Communicator and Rank Pip replica set, go with this one.

Fleet Admiral Rank with 5 Stars

Rise to the top of the fleet as a Starfleet Five Star Fleet Admiral using this Star Trek: TNG 5 Star Admiral Rank Pip Set.

The rank pip set (2 sets of pips in a bar) is of the highest quality and made with full metal. It also has a military clasp on the back for a secure fit.

As you know, these Admiral Rank Pip sets are hard to come by since they’ve been out of production for so many years. They are a licensed Paramount Productions rank pip set. Get this Fleet Admiral Pip Set before they’re gone.

4 Star Starfleet Fleet Admiral Pips

The 4-Star Star Trek Admiral Pip set is currently in stock but because of popularity for this rank, that can change easily.. These hard-to-find rank pip sets come into and out of stock as sellers have them available. Although I haven’t tried it myself, I have a theory about trying to rectify the situation. If you can find a 5 Star Fleet Admiral set of pips, you may be able to cut them down to a 4 Star Rank Pip Set. At the moment, there are some Star Trek: TNG 5 Star Admiral Rank Pip Sets available as mentioned above.

2 Star Rear Admiral Starfleet Admiral and Commodore Rank

There are currently some 2 Star Vice Admiral Rank Pip Sets available for purchase. The Commodore rank single star pins are not in stock but like the others from 4-Star down, you can trim the others to fit your rank. As I mentioned for the 5 Star Fleet Admiral pins, these are hard to find these days as a licensed product because they have been out of production for so long.

If you’re looking for a 2 Star Admiral, they are in limited stock. But as I mentioned above for the 4 Star Admiral, finding a set of Rank Pips for a higher ranking Admiral may give you the option of cutting them down to the proper number of stars and the same goes for “fixing” it to match Commodore rank.

Expertly-crafted of solid metal and then hand-burnished for a beautiful effect, this collector’s quality prop replica will really knock your socks off! Like the other badges, the many reviews are extremely complimentary, with an average of 4.8 out of 5. That’s hard to get from Amazon buyers’ picky standards.

Buyers felt that the prop replica was just the right size to display well on your uniform, and had a solid weight to it without being too heavy to wear well on your uniform. One other point of note is that if you are wearing it with a lower quality of fabric in a less expensive uniform shirt, or another kind of fabric that is lightweight, you can improve the heft and avoid any sagging by cutting out a small piece of thin cardboard and using that to anchor between the pins and the uniform shirt. Otherwise, with some lighter materials, you do get a bit of sagging.

Star Trek TOS 3rd Season Command Insignia Patch

In Star Trek: The Original Series, the Starfleet Command patches on the uniform were embroidered rather than sporting a communicator badge or more elaborate Division badge like the ones above. In TOS Season 3, this Command Patch was worn by Captain Kirk and other Starfleet Command officers.

With excellent details on the embroidered patch, if you’re a fan of TOS, and especially looking for something from Season 3, this patch is a good choice.
